Karen Maple studied photography at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Missoula, Montana and had her work exhibited at the Modernbook Gallery In Palo Alto, CA.

She also studied patternmaking and draping at Apparel Arts in San Francisco, and has finished level one of the Knitting Guild Association's Masters Knitting program.
